2023 - Present

Tech lead for the Release & Delivery Engineering (RDE) team, providing service teams a paved road onto our platform powering Max, Bleacher Report, and CNN. Mentored and led engineers in their career growth.

  • CI/CD Platform Architecture - The platform needed a unified CI/CD process spanning thousands of engineers, repositories and deployment configurations. Architected and led the implementation end-to-end, from repository structure conventions and GitHub Actions workflows to integration with our internal Kubernetes deployment API. Adopted by over 1,000 engineers across 400 service teams, processing around 600 deployments per day through a consistent, auditable pipeline.

  • Serverless Build & Deploy Framework - Teams needed a fast, consistent way to build and deploy serverless applications without wrestling with infrastructure setup. Architected an internal framework centered on developer experience, providing an opinionated CLI and pipeline integration that abstracted away provisioning, and environment promotion. Enabled ephemeral AWS environments on demand for isolated testing, eliminating environment contention. Reduced the path from code to production from days to minutes.

  • AI Agentic Runtime Framework - As the organization adopted AI, teams lacked a secure, standardized way to develop and deploy agentic applications. Architected a runtime framework leveraging AWS AgentCore, using the serverless build & deploy framework to provide a proven path from sandbox to production with built-in safety, compliance controls, and observability. Accelerated AI adoption across the organization by removing infrastructure barriers for teams building agentic workflows.

  • Centralized Eventing Service - Cross-cutting concerns like deployment tracking, metrics collection, and quality gates had no unified event backbone. Built a centralized eventing service using API Gateway, Lambda, and EventBridge to power deployment events, metrics, and quality gates across the organization. Currently processing over 2.5 million internal events per day, providing real-time visibility into the health of every deployment.

  • Release Orchestrator - Deployments needed automated quality gates to prevent untested code from reaching production. Designed and built a release orchestration service using API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, and SQS that enforces required testing gates before promoting deployments to the next environment. Reduced production incidents caused by insufficient pre-release validation.

Senior DevOps Engineer

Discovery Inc

2019 - 2023

Technical lead for the Direct to Consumer DevOps team, helping engineering teams safely ship products for brands like Food Network Kitchen, Magnolia, and HGTV.

  • Internal CLI & Deployment Tooling - Engineering teams lacked a unified way to interact with infrastructure and deploy services consistently. Built internal CLI tools and standardized deployment tooling that gave teams a common interface for provisioning, deploying, and managing their applications. Reduced friction across teams and established repeatable deployment patterns across the organization.

  • Observability Standards - Teams had inconsistent monitoring, making it difficult to detect and respond to issues across services. Implemented organization-wide standards for alerting and dashboarding in Grafana, giving teams consistent visibility into application health and reducing mean time to detection for production issues.

  • EC2 to ECS Container Migration - Workloads running on EC2 instances were difficult to scale and maintain. Designed and implemented the migration from EC2 to ECS containers, introducing blue/green deployments for zero-downtime releases and auto-scaling policies to handle traffic demands. Improved deployment safety, resource efficiency, and the team’s ability to scale services in response to load.

Senior Software Engineer

Radio Systems Corporation

2016 - 2019

Designed, implemented, and maintained cloud systems to process data from IoT devices including smart pet feeders and invisible fence systems, powered by Docker (ECS) and serverless (Lambda).

  • IoT Cloud Platform - The company was launching its first connected products and needed a cloud platform to ingest and process device data at scale. Designed and built the IoT backend from the ground up using AWS services, supporting the product line from zero devices to over 20,000 active units in the field. Established a reliable, scalable foundation that enabled the company’s entry into connected pet products.

  • IoT Device Security & Certificate Management - Connected devices needed secure, verifiable identities before communicating with cloud services. Worked with the manufacturing team in China to automate the certificate burning process during production, and implemented Just-in-Time (JIT) certificate provisioning for devices in the field. Ensured every device was securely authenticated, preventing unauthorized access to the platform.

  • CI/CD Pipeline - The team had no automated build or deployment process, slowing releases and increasing risk. Designed and implemented an automated CI/CD pipeline using Jenkins and AWS CodePipeline. Gave the team a repeatable, reliable release process that reduced manual deployment effort and shortened the feedback loop.

  • Standardized Authentication - APIs lacked a consistent authentication mechanism across services. Built a standardized authentication system using API Gateway and Lambda authorizers. Provided a unified, secure entry point for all API consumers and simplified onboarding of new services.

Send The Light Distribution, LLC

2006 - 2016

Designed, built, and maintained a customer-facing e-commerce site and internal CMS managing over 100,000 products, descriptions, categories, and images.

  • E-commerce Platform Rebuild - The existing website suffered daily outages causing customer complaints and lost revenue. Designed and built a new system from scratch on AWS infrastructure (EC2, S3, Elasticsearch), serving as both developer and system administrator. Eliminated daily reliability issues and restored customer confidence in the platform.

  • Search Engine Migration to Elasticsearch - Product search relied on SQL LIKE statements, delivering slow and inaccurate results across a 100k+ product catalog. Migrated the search engine to Elasticsearch, enabling keyword ranging, fuzzy matching, synonym support, and multi-language search. Dramatically improved search speed and relevance, giving customers a rich search experience that drove product discovery.
